GK Groups roots date back to 1878 when Frank Kenning opened a hardware business. They have since bought the Morris Factory, had interests in motor vehicles, fuel, vehicle rental, tyres and operated over 100 petrol forecourts. They took advantage of the opportunities that were presented to them by the new motor trade and by 1950 owned fifty depots, in 1956 they owned eighty. The company was then expanded by the Kenning brothers, George and David, following the death of their father Sir George, to 300 depots and over 8000 employees. The business grew rapidly and acquired acquisitions along the way. In 1981 George died, with his brother David dying the year after; the company was succeeded by Bart Oxspring and Jerry Foster. In 1987 Sir George’s Grandsons established their own new independent company and bought out the Kenning Motor Group’s Ford interests in Chesterfield and Sheffield, renaming the company GK Group after their grandfather. GK Group now operate across 7 sites offering Ford, Mazda and Kia franchises. We are thrilled to be working with a company with such history. Welcome on board GK Group.
